Pimp your Performance
Fancy smooth performance without having to reboot your phone every other day? Wants more than 100mb of available memory? Heres how!
*Credits go to developers at xda to make these possible

-Task killers: due to the lack of froyo, 3rd party task killers are still a must on X10. You can consider purchasing AdvanceTaskKiller pro for the lack of loading advertisement online which reduce its memory footprint and power consumption.

-Uninstall bloatware: removing applications you do not use not only save up precious onboard storage and prevent them from running on the background. Startup time for phone may speed up as some of these applications have auto start services.
  • Download Super one click 1.5.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906248 to root your phone (works up to 2.0.2.A.0.24)
  • Download file managers like root explorer from android market that can access root folder. Titanum backup also have similar functions.
  • Android is built upon linux and every phone application and function is within /system/app. Additional care is required when deleting applications as you may accidentally remove a core process on your phone.
  • Check out http://www.ccalonnec.fr/wiki/index.php?title=SE_Xperia_X10_:_list_of_default_apps_and_how_to_remove_them. However some applications have their name changed slightly after the 2.1 update.
  • Recommend removal of moxier, evernote, quadrapop, playNow, trackid and whatever your telecom shove down your throat
  • After deleting the .apk files you may have weird strings in the application manager where you can safely uninstall to complete the process.
-Install Just In Time compiler that is featured in froyo to improve performance. However it will not be on par as froyo since eclair is not fully optimised. Alternatively you may want to install custom froyo ROM which offers higher performance, but it is currently unreliable with missing features and bootloader have yet to be cracked.
  • Download JIT from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885977 and transfer into your sd card
  • Download xRecovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
  • Installation requires root access
  • If automatic installation fails(pretty common), you can go to sdcard/Android/data/com.zoz33/xRecoveryInstaller and copy its content to system/bin
  • reboot your phone and keep pressing back button at the boot screen where white "Sony Ericsson" is displayed
  • volume rocker to scroll, home to accept, back for...back
  • clear dalvik cache from advance options
  • select install custom zip and choose your JIT update file
  • reboot your phone
  • Download Quadrant from android market to check your performance. Your score should be around 700+ if JIT is successfully installed

Pimp your Battery Life
Fancy 4 days of dumb phone usage or 2 days of moderate phone usage on 1 charge? Able to last 24hours even after playing hours of angry birds? Heres how!

-Task killers: killing running processes is a good way to reduce power consumption

-Uninstall bloatware: Uninstalling applications works better than killing its auto start process afterwards. Some persistent process would restore itself after being killed, resulting in higher power consumption.

-Automatic Brightness: X10 uses an ancient LCD technology that is extremely power inefficient. Although it is missing from android settings, you can use android default power widget to set the screen to adjust to your ambience.

-Auto Sync: Turn off or reduce frequency of auto sychronisation of your applications like timescape and google account. Constant data usage is one of the main reasons for X10 abysmal battery life.

-Data connection: Unless you must constantly feed your hunger for social networking, a widget can be used to quickly toggle your data connection. Free apps like angry birds will be denied connection and those pesky advertisments will disappear, while increasing battery life at the same time. I recommend Switchpro widget as it doesnt change any APN settings.

-Avoid transferring data through USB port: X10 uses Lit Pol battery where its life expectancy is based by the times it is charged. X10 automatically attempts to charge your phone whenever you plug into a PC. PC charging however is too slow to be used for a full charge. I recommend the use of wifi file transfer like Wifi file explorer on android market to transfer small files over your network.

Pimp your Features
Heres a list of applications used to optimize your phone mentioned above or just some cool productivity apps that really make a difference.

-Advance Task killer pro: used to kill process as mentioned above

-Switchpro widget: offers great range of customization for widgets including the data connection toggle mentioned above, all the features included in android default power widget and many others. Also features a toggle to use your camera flash as a flashlight.

-HTC keyboard: HTC offers one of the most intuitive keyboards. Great guys at xda manage to add so much features that it rivals paid software keyboards out there. Highly recommended unless you use swipe.Sadly this project have been discontinued so we wont be seeing newer HTC keyboards like those featured on Desire HD.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5475283

-Skyfire: browser that allows X10 to play flash contents like youtube. Websites are processed on skyfire server before being sent to your phone for the accurate layout similar to PC browsers. However performance is sluggish when running multi tabs and pop up blocker is unreliable.

-Quickoffice: edit microsoft documents on the go.

-Acrobat reader: Although Quickoffice allows viewing of .pdf, i find acrobat reader GUI more intuitive to use and performs much faster too.

-Lost Phone: Create a secret sms code to ring, locate and even sent thief SIM information

-handyCalc: scientific calculator which display your input. Comes with converter that does everything from basic length conversions to non base10 numeric system. Currency converter is also included with ability to download newest currency exchange rates.

-Root explorer: Not only does it allows root access after using z4root, it allows you to send any files through bluetooth.

-Titatnium Backup: advance restore and backup application that backup non market applications too

-Contact2Sim Pro: allows you to sync your contacts between sim card and phone in case you are changing platform or returning to dumb phones. However the program takes pretty long to load sim card information.

-Wifi file explorer: simple wifi file server that allows you to access phone sd card on your PC.

-Zedge: free community generated wallpapers and ringtones
