UltimateEars HyperBoom Bluetooth audio stuttering on Windows 10 fix

This will do for now.

HyperBoom is godsent. It has two channels of Bluetooth, AUX in and best of all, optical TOSlink input. Portable speaker that looks classy in the living room, sounds decent and did i mention TOSlink?! Oh yeah, I already did. Count me in!

With my AudioEngine still stuck in the other hemisphere, I use this as the "shared" home speaker for the TV (via TOSlink), phone and PC (via its own dedicated Bluetooth channel). It also has the option to go mobile with its huge battery, but so far left untested due to current world events.

Sure, it doesnt have a well tuned neutral response of the AudioEngines, but it is fun to listen to with two decent woofers driving its own massive passive driver/radiator to pump up those house rocking bass. It also has two tweeters that provides surprisingly decent vocals for a speaker of this demographic.

Everything is great until random audio stutters from the Windows PC, and once it starts, the stutter does not stop until the bluetooth connection is restart on the PC.

Go through the SOP like updating Bluetooth driver, audio driver and even the speakers firmware with no joy.

Some research and finally found the quick fix that improves the situation tremendously, stutter still happens occassionally, especially when the other channel of Bluetooth (phone) attempts to output audio concurrently but the audio now recovers by itself after a few seconds:
  • Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices & Printers\HyperBoom
  • Right click Properties
  • Services Tab
  • Uncheck "Serial port (SPP) 'LWACP'"
  • Apply
  • Now go rock the whole neighborhood
*It may also work with other UltimateEars speakers or other bluetooth speakers if the same service is available and checked.

Can't wait to get my hands back on my AudioEngine once the covid shit show blows over.
