Half life 2 episode 2 review

Not really a fan of episodic gaming, but sadly valve choosen this path.Using a 3 year old engine, half life 2 is still looks damn good, now with advance physics all without the ageia. However the texture looks @#*!,even with the newly added ultra high settings, it still didnt help a single bit. From afar, things start to look good, not on par with heavyweights like UE3 or cryengine, but it have the dreamy tranquil look with one of the best physics modeling i ever seen, other than ageia's demo, which have no significant impact or purposes. Now serve with 2.0 HDR since ep1, my pc still could run this shit at 1600x1200,all settings at max and even switch on 2x filtering with no significant penalty. But one thing to note is the use of flash light make framrate drop like hell and there is some slowdown due to video memory in some areas, which means 256mb is going lowend really soon.
Now, if you havent play the game and wants to play it,hate spoilers,or god forbids you to the holy gordon freeman, read no further. This is one of the best story driven game ever created in histroy.Yes even half life 2 and ep1 itself. No boring preaching of cold war conspiracy nor why iran shouldnt be nuked by now.Every words said in cutscenes have its weight in this game, may it related to the story or strengthen your feeling towards a particular character. You start off just after episode 1 where your train got wrecked and the portal is still open. The moment you get your ass out with the help of your girlfriend, you are treated with shockingly awesome display of the engine new physic system. Then your little date with your girlfriend when wrong,a new enemy, hunter, killed your precious. The vorgs came and offered to help, with your help of course.During the ritual to save alyx, gman appeared again, with much more sinister motive and thats about the last time you ever see him this time round. The rest is pretty much the usual half life 2 adventure, killing combines, antlions, zommbies and anything you come to expect.Enemy are generally reused, but the pace is good, realistic objective, great map design and sightseeing keep far from getting bored.Ending finale is rather amusing however, where you are given the magnusson (magnificent??)device by dr Magnusson to throw and sticks to the striders and detonate with any projectile.Sounds easy but it isnt. With the physics manipulator as the deliverance for the payload,it sure sounds crazy.Furthermore, the bombs can be shot down and striders are accompany by hunters and they act as anti air against the magnificent bombs.Taking out hunter by gunfire prove to time consuming so i decided to improvise alittle. With some nice vehicle CTF action in ut3 recently,i lusted for some vehicular manslaughter.Ram some hunter, spring below the striders and send them straight to hell with the well, magnificent bomb.Game ended with shutting down the portal, and well, see your girlfriend father die in the hands of advisors.Dont ask me whats that, nobody knows in fact.So with alyx crying a bucket full, episode 2 ended with more lose end, and us craving for more.More or less,i rushed through the game due to lack of time and manage to complete in about 5 hours which is rather short. So unless you hate gordon or alyx for some religious reason, this is a must have for any one that knows how to shoot with a mouse.

Damn, i thought i just shut it down a year ago?
