Bioware helming a fantasy RPG got most of us excited.With Mass effect 2 slated to release next year and lack of blockbuster non MMO fantasy RPG recently, Dragon Age Origns is our only hope.Elves, dwarfs, humans, talking trees, retarded blood hungry orcs given another random fancy name and you get a story akin to lord of the rings, but this time you are in control.
Rather than spoiling the fun about the rich plot, i will instead descript what you could manipulate about the plot.Infact i could only spoil 2 plots possible in the story even if i wanted too, because of the numerous outcomes possible.And when i say manipulate the plot, it is major events that will shake the game world called ferelden forever.From violently deciding who is the dwarven king to the birth of an old god to the mortal world , this decisions never come without a twist with tempting bargain offered to sway you to the dark side.Every action or decision you make will either come back to haunt you later or have immediate effect of pissing your team mates off. Regarding the pissing part, worry not, a game breaking imbal feature called gifts will bribe your way through even the most inhumane things you do like commanding a genocide of magic users infront of your mage partner.Another issue is all the prejudice against elves , magic users and dwarfs disappear when you enter the main story arc without any explanation which really spoil the atmosphere.But the "origins" arc for all the story is well told and would tempt you to replay almost every race to check it out and would still continue to complete the main story since it has multiple endings.Another much anticipated feature is sex since bioware developers say they like sex in videogame and this story carries strong mature theme but trust me,it is disappointing and not worth the effort to get laid in dragon age.
Combat system is a hit and miss.Since you have a party of four and can only control one character one at a time or pause the game every second to give all of them precise instruction, bioware introduced a feature called tatical slot.It let you create profile of conditions for your AI controlled partners to execute certain actions.Investing into tatical talent allow more tatical slots for more complicated instructions as your characters gain more spell.But when it comes to gang bang session or boss battle, tatical slot wouldnt be enough and you find yourself pausing the game every second to macro all your characters or you will be overwhelm in no time.
Visually, it get the job done.No showstopper like popping texture and crappy camera to haunt you.But looks underwhelming dated for a blockbuster title.Currently, the game have a issue where after prolong playing, loading of levels will become extremly lengthly and require you to restart the game unless you enjoying staring at game tips or plot summaries.
This is the game that makes me come back and make me want to replay the story with all the classes and races, be a entirely different personality, curious to know how the plot ends up.And that means this game is a exceeding sucessful RPG, the last time i remeber this feeling, its World of warcraft. Though some may feel lonely and awkward but to many of us, a singleplayer RPG also means no bloody kids with vocabulary limited expressing how they like to have sex with everyone's mother to ruin your gaming experience.Anyway, this game is a must have for fantasy RPG fans and till mass effect 2 or bioshock 2 release next year, Dragon Age: origin shall be our main fix for good ole RPG gaming.
