Tips on cleaning razer mouse

Photobucket
Bad Mouse

I previously owned a razer krait. Its rubber surface didnt gave me much of a problem during its lifetime. Eventually issues arise from the buttons made me replace it. The rubber surface did wear out though, probably due to normal wear and tear. However that cannot be said for the newer abyssus.
About a few weeks of using, dirt and stains appeared on the mouse surface. I decide then to use a damp cloth to clean it. To my horror, the surface became sticky and rough, as if it is peeling. Luckily, i only started cleaning the right side of the mouse. Since i m clueless what to do, i left it as it is for a few months until the dirt problem became unbearable.
It seems i m not the only one facing this problem and therefore would like to share how i get rid of the stains and cleans the mouse. Searching for solutions online, i come across a few guys talking about using alcohol while others rebutted that it would melt the surface. Since my mouse is in a horrid state to begin with, i decided to give it a try.
I purchased rubbing alcohol from a local pharmacy which contains 70% isopropyl alcohol. Ample amount is poured on a cloth to wipe the mouse. Surprisingly, all the dirt came off easily. But it also created another problem, the surface is now extremely sticky. Hoping it would eventually go away, i leave it as it is. Within days of discomfort and huge amount of dirt attracted to the sticky surface i decide to find a solution.
Remember the right corner of the mouse that i clean with water? I too started cleaning alcohol on that part first. Due to the uneven surface, i spend much more time rubbing that area to smoothen it. Mysterious as it is, that place doesnt suffer the same stickiness as others. It also have a different shade which is darker and less reflective then others.
So i tried reapplying the alcohol again. This time round, each area is clean repeatedly with considerable amount of force. And i m happy to report the mouse surface is clean and no longer sticky. This time however results in each area having a different shade.[Dont say i didnt warn you..] This is probably due to different amount of force and time applied to clean. But i couldnt get it evenly colored after spending alittle more effort on it, or probably i cant be bothered in the first place since i have already got what i initially set out to achieve. The interesting thing to note is after you able to rub till the stickiness is gone, the stickiness wont come back when you apply alcohol again. I m not quite sure what happened, maybe the surface rubber have been partially melted away or something. All i know is the mouse is now clean, smooth and comfortable, albeit alittle ugly.
I hope this helps someone with a similar problem but i m not responsible for any damage caused. =]

I rub my mouse rubber surface with alcohol till the surface texture changes, which i presume have its top layers weared off. What remain is a surface that doesnt seems to attract oil at all.(which is awesome since i apply moisturizer occasionally) Never had problem with its plastic surface as it can be cleaned easily with a damp cloth. Hope it helps.

Seriously, this mouse has been the worst purchase I have ever made. :(

Anyway, thanks for your post on the sticky problem. Same thing happened to my Copperhead... argh.

Hope I can fix it up. Either way I am done with Razer's shoddy products.
