This model is very cheap, coming in complementary when you purchase jan issue of dengeki hobby. Another method to obtain it is to buy singapore version of HG unicorn, which i suppose for 1 run only. Comes with 2 runners, 1 white and a small 4 piece red acrylic since its FG. But if you put some effort into it, this kit actually looks damn good.
Firstly is the lack of stickers bundled with the head display. Although i have the option to purchase February issue of dengeki hobby to get my hands on the stickers but it is seriously a waste of money because i couldnt understand a single word from the magazine which cost approx 20+SGD. And so i m forced to paint the eyes of the unicorn myself. Theres some harcore builders painting on 1/100 scale models for the eyes, but doing it on a 1/48 model is close to driving me insane. Once its done i painted the bottom of the base with silver spray can bought from daiso. I taped the edge of the base but some still seep through and i have to use Mr color thinner to clean it off. Then the unexpected happen, the plastic melt. Daiso's paint probably contain some impurity and when mix with the thinner, the solution soften the plastic. When you try to rub it off, its like using a eraser on a damp paper. So i try to sand it as flat as possible and use white paint over it, attempting to reduce the gross flaws.
After painting the V fin like my MG unicorn, i used the stickers from unicorn stand to customize it alittle. After that, the model is done as a unicorn under 10 minutes, took some shots and time to change to destroy mode which i intent to display.
The difficulty of transformation is just as bad as the MG version, problem pushing the top part out enough for the face to close on the unicorn visor. As the first head model i own, it sure looks pretty since i didnt built a high quality resin head before for comparison. It would probably looks so much better with a complete body included but to keep the price low it is sadly absent. Further ruining the look is the cheapo paint i choose from daiso, where you notice the slightly greyer patch i tried to hide. But this make me salivating over the idea of a 1/48 unicorn gundam like the recently released 1/48 RX78. ^^
